Support Sydney Writers' Festival

A new year is a chance to reflect on the year that’s been and set intentions for the months to come.
To mark the occasion we’ve gathered readerly resolutions from across the Sydney Writers’ Festival office. This year, we’re reading with greater intention, browsing our bookshelves and spending time with different genres, forms and authors.
Jen, Digital Marketing Manager
My 2025 reading goal is to read more non-fiction. My 2024 StoryGraph stats showed me that last year I read one non-fiction book (woeful)! 2025 is off to a solid start having read Blood by Jen Gunter and currently tackling How Many More Women by Jennifer Robinson and Keina Yoshida.
Brooke, Chief Executive Officer
In 2025, I want to focus on just one book at a time – not four or five. Also, I’m expanding my 50-page rule to 75 pages meaning that if something isn't grabbing me in the first 50 pages I'm going to be more patient.
Iain, Ticketing & Customer Service Manager
My 2025 reading goal is to read more books written by female authors. I am currently reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and have a bumper year queued up with female-written works. Next up is Shankari Chandran’s Unfinished Business.
Julia, Marketing Coordinator
My goal is to read the books I already own. I want to go back to the days when I was a kid and I used to buy books and read them straight away – I miss the thrill.
Sarah, Head of Marketing & Digital
Like Julia, I'm aiming to read the books on my bookshelf. I am an avid library user and always end up reading whatever hold has come in for me instead of the 50 or so unread books on my shelves at home. Sorry to the library, but it's probably good for my other inner west library friends as I won't be in the line anymore!
Vivienne, Digital Marketing Coordinator
No more pigeon holes! In 2025, I’m straying from my oh so comfortable reading habits and embracing different genres, styles and forms.
